  • City gov’t finalizes rental fees for Taipei Dome

The Taipei City Government has received proposed rental fee standards for the Taipei Dome from the Farglory Group. The Department of Sports confirmed that ticket sales and rental costs for domestic baseball games amounted to NT$525,000, including a 10% ticket sales cut. For non-ticketed events open to the public, venue rent costs rise to NT$1.05 million. The rental fee will vary based on event types and standards, with utilities calculated separately. Different rates apply to international baseball events, non-baseball events, non-sporting events, and specific events like concerts or exhibitions. Rental costs also differ based on whether the venue is fully opened or not. The Farglory Group has provided the proposed fee standards to the city government for evaluation and a public announcement will be made after discussions.

  • Taiwan secures prime lodging for Paris 2024 Olympics

Taiwan’s Ministry of Education Sports Administration inspects the athletes’ village at the Paris 2024 Olympics, noting that Taiwan’s delegation has been allocated 39 single rooms for a comfortable rest environment. The Taiwan team has been granted an independent seven-story apartment in the village, which is located in Saint-Denis and features green construction designs. The village uses 100% renewable energy and will transform into a residential community and public activity area after the Olympics. The floors assigned to the Taiwan team are near completion, including 39 single rooms, 33 double rooms, and a two-story sky garden. The beds in the athletes’ dorms use thick cardboard frames and mattresses made from a special fishing net material. The athlete’s village won’t have air conditioning but will use a "floor cooling system" with cold water pipes installed under wooden floors. Portable air conditioners may be rented to ensure athletes get the best rest at night. Each country’s athletes’ village exterior can be self-designed, and Taiwan plans to discuss with the National Sports Training Center how to decorate and design the exterior to promote recognition of Taiwan and its athletes.

The urban planning committee of Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior (MOI) has approved phase two of the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) expansion project, which is closely linked to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). This project aims to meet the advanced manufacturing needs of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. The CTSP administration received support from committee members, and the land is expected to be handed over to factories by mid-2024 for public works construction. The expansion will convert agricultural and institutional land into a specialized area and public facility space spanning 89 hectares. In addition to creating 4,500 jobs to strengthen the semiconductor industry, the project will also align with climate change strategies and targets for a net-zero path by 2050. This includes a timeline for the supply of reclaimed water and renewable energy. The MOI emphasizes that these strategies and targets will respond to international sustainability goals while balancing global competitiveness with local sustainable development.

  • MOA to reward catering industry serving healthy vegetables

The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) in Taiwan has announced that starting in January next year, food service businesses will only receive rewards up to NT $14 per serving if they agree to use organic or traceable agricultural products for 12 varieties of fast-growing vegetables, including bok choy and water spinach. However, the catering industry has expressed concerns about potential price increases during typhoon seasons or cold weather, which could make certified and organic products even more expensive. In response, MOA officials have confirmed that subsidies will be offered to mitigate the impact of vegetable price hikes, with school lunch allowances per serving potentially increasing from NT $3.5 to NT$10, and remote schools eligible for an allowance of up to NT $14 per serving. Chen Mig-hsin, Director of Taiwan’s Food Catering Association, has called for the approval of integrating QR-code usage for verified products during natural disasters, emphasizing the need for additional reward systems to better prepare domestic food suppliers for weather disturbances. Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA) Deputy Director Su Mao-hsiang has acknowledged the efforts made by catering businesses to support the MOA’s goals of promoting healthy and affordable school lunches. Currently, over half of the 3,800 tons of vegetables purchased weekly are organic and traceable products, and Su anticipates that the expanded purchase of healthy agricultural foods will further incentivize farmers to produce them.
